ChatGPT vs Claude for Script Writing — Different Plans, Different First Draft

5 min read · Updated Nov 2026 · Prices checked against official pricing pages

The price does not settle this one — and it no longer even lines up neatly. ChatGPT's individual pricing now has three steps: Free, Go at QAR 29 a month on the rendered Qatar pricing page, and Plus at QAR 70 a month. Go is the cheaper door — longer conversations and more of everything in Free — but the plan page notes it may include ads. Plus is the main paid plan. Claude has a single paid step: Pro at $20 a month, or about $17 a month billed annually. Prices are shown exactly as rendered on each vendor's pricing page on 3 November 2026 — ChatGPT's page showed Qatari riyals, Claude's showed US dollars — and both vary by region, so check the pricing page in your own region on the day you pay. What differs is the shape of the work around the draft.

ChatGPT is the strength of organisation around the script. Projects keep the research, the outline and the drafts for one channel in one place, memory carries choices across sessions, and scheduled tasks can prepare a fresh set of ideas on a timetable. For a creator running one channel on a routine — same format, new topic each week — that structure is the product, not the chat box.

Claude is the strength of the long draft itself. Projects and Artifacts give a long script somewhere to live outside the chat thread, so a full narration draft can be read, revised and kept in one view instead of scrolled through in pieces. For a creator whose scripts run long — narration with room to breathe, rather than short punchy lines — that reading view matters more than any single feature.

Neither tool publishes a fixed message count for its paid plan, and both measure usage in rolling windows rather than a simple number of chats. The honest test is therefore not a table of limits. It is one real script brief, run through both free tiers, in the same sitting: the same topic, the same length, the same instruction about tone. Keep the draft that needs the least editing before it can be read aloud. That test costs nothing, and it answers the question no pricing page can: which first draft sounds like your channel.

The verdict: structure versus the long draft

For a routine channel with a fixed format, start with ChatGPT: the structure around the script does the repeating work. For long narration scripts that need to be read as one piece, start with Claude: the draft has somewhere to live. If you write both kinds, keep both free tiers and pay for the one whose drafts you actually publish. Do not pay for either until the free tier has shown you a draft you would read aloud.

Prices vary by region: the figures above are exactly as rendered on 3 November 2026 — Qatari riyals on ChatGPT's page, US dollars on Claude's. Check the pricing page in your own region on the day you pay, because these pages move.
